Beware the Civil Procedure Division Scam!

I’ve been getting calls from an outfit that calls itself the Civil Procedure Division. I finally too the trouble to Google them. They’re a scam. I’m not sure what they expected me to do, since the scam works like this:

Civil Procedure Divison employee:[1]
I’m calling from the Civil Procedure Division. We have documents to deliver for [a relative].[2] Will [relative] be available to accept these documents tomorrow between the hours of 10 and 4?
The first sign that this is a scam is that when you ask for any sort of clarifying information, they hang up on you. The first time I simply denied any ability to accept documents on behalf the named relative. Then they called back, so I tried to dig for information. If you’re nice, they don’t always hang up on you immediately.

I did get a return phone number of 855–778–5234. That doesn’t give me any idea of where they are. Damn. After giving me the number, the woman hung up on me.

I tried again. No dice. Finally, I heard her say, “do not ever call this number again” before she hung up on me. Well, it’s not like they would oblige if I said that, so I had no qualms about trying again. And they hung up on me on the second ring.

I was patient. I called and in a meek voice explained I needed to deliver some legal documents to them,[3] and I asked for an address. I got the “almost” address of a Post Office in Orlando, Florida.
1703 West Wetherbee Road,
Suite 772590
Orlando, Florida, 32877
Now, 1701 West Wetherbee is a Post Office. In other words, they’re Box 2590 at that Post Office.
I’ve contacted the Florida Attorney General and the U.S. Postal Service, reporting attempted fraud in both cases. I’m hoping after today they stay off my back.

  1. I wasn’t quite certain how to characterize the caller. “Fuckwad” didn’t seem sufficiently clear in context.  ↩
  2. They’ve been asking about a specific relative. In the context of the scam, it turns out it’s not actually important.  ↩
  3. They lie. I lie.  ↩

  1. Yep, I got the same harassing phone calls. I took it to the police and they told me to ignore them until they stop calling. I felt like a fool when I went there but, I had to make sure. They are real fucktards!!!

    1. Unfortunately, the "ignore them until they stop calling" method won't work. I've been getting calls from people claiming to be 'Civil Procedures', on & off, for well over a year now, but it's never stopped them from calling. They've tried to convince me that there's everything from lawsuits, to warrants. Even after blocking a number they've called from, sooner or later, I get a call from a different number. I've lost count as to how many of these numbers I've blocked, but I'd estimate that, just in the past 12 months, I've probably blocked at least 5-6 numbers. Interestingly-enough, these numbers appear to be originating (or "supposedly originating", as they could, very well, be spoofing phone numbers) from all over the country, as I've seen prefixes from New York City, Los Angeles, Sonoma County, and Miami. One one occurrence, I asked for the contact information for the supposed entity that had filed this supposed lawsuit against me, to which they gave me a number. When I called the number, it turned out to be the same "business", to which you could only leave a voicemail, and they'd get back to you...except that the voicemail was "full", and the system tells you to try again later. TOTAL SCAM!!! They're persistent...but, thankfully, they're not very intelligent.

  3. I received two calls from this company. The first one they tried to claim I had warrants for my arrest and they had made several attempts to serve me. They insisted I take a case number and call 1-888-864-4232 so I could receive my legal documents the following business day between the hours of 10-4. As soon as I disconnected with them I contacted Post 12 our local police department here in Kentucky. The deputy followed up to inform me that this is in fact a scam and do not call the secondary number nor give any debit or credit information over the phone. Today I received a second call, already knowing it's a scam I flustered "Jeff" when I wanted to play 20 questions. Jeff, can't tell me were his company is located that's a privacy violation nor would Jeff provide his last name. Take my advise, block their calls or have fun with it. Whens the last time you got to prank call anyone? LOL Best part is they call you! HAHA Don't take this serious life's to short to deal with uptight ppl or thieves! :) Peace
