Naughty Pictures Bring Worse Charge then Burglary

Probably not the Shaws,
but you never know (I've cropped out
the racy bits, sorry).
A North Dakota couple, Elmer and Emma Shaw, were arrested in 1917 on suspicion of burglary and in searching through their possessions, the police found photos of the couples. Now they were really in trouble. I haven’t been able to find any information on the couple’s arrest, or for that matter much information about them in general. I might have written this up earlier were it not for an error on the part of a compositor.[1]

The earliest reference I can find to this story is in the Bismark Tribune of October 9, 1907, but I didn’t find that one due to a typographical error (which I’ll explain in detail soon, since I keep harping on it). The article which actually came to my attention was in the Ward County Independent, of Minot, North Dakota, on October 25, 1917, and was titled “A Revolting Pair,”[2] referring to the Shaws.

Police Decide Not to Scope Out Teen Boner

Sexted girlfriend, abused by police
Yesterday, the Manassas, Virginia police got some national intention with their warrant to inject a 17-year-old with drugs to induce an erection so that they could compare this to a video the young man is alleged to have sent to his 15-year-old girlfriend, after she sent him sexually explicit pictures.

I didn't mention that part yesterday, that she sent pictures. Why haven't the Manassas police forced her to strip, to show that the pictures on his phone really are his girlfriend? Sure, her mother complained, but why aren't both teens being charged with distribution of child pornography?

Let's be serious, if we're going to insane.

Obviously, Virginia should just drop all the charges, maybe put him on a cell-phone less probation until he's 18, and tell him not to show his underage junk to anyone else. USA Today (among other sources) provided the update.

Douglas Keene, the Manassas chief of police, told a local television station
When I found out about it, we determined we would not proceed.
Good call.

The Police Have Boner Comparing Software?

Virginia is clearly not for lovers if they’re still teens. The Washington Post reports that the Manassas, Virginia police are trying to get a 17-year-old boy to get his penis erect on camera so that they compare it that in a video sent to a 15-year-old girl. The girls mother found it and now her daughter’s boyfriend is facing child porn charges. If he is convicted, he would be imprisoned until he is 21 and be a registered sex offender.

The police have already taken pictures of the young man’s penis, feel they need the boner shot to truly make their case. They might be using this as a tactic to get the teen to plead guilty, since the teen’s lawyer was told that if he did plead guilty,

Astonishing Fact: Sex Typically for Pleasure!

Dan Savage reviews a piece that points out that when children are told about sex, the pleasurable aspects are typically left out. Of course, teachers aren't really comfortable with talking about pleasure, as Alice Dreger, a professor of clinical medical humanities and bioethics at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, wrote on her blog (which was later picked up on Pacific Standard).

Professor Dreger's piece is a must-read, but way of introduction, I want to quote Savage:
One day my then-eight-year-old son came into the kitchen and jumped up on the counter. He narrowed his eyes and gave me a strange look.

"Two men can't make a baby," D.J. finally said.
That's true, I told him, two men can't make a baby.

"Then you and daddy have sex for no reason," he said.
Dreger has a nine-year old son, whose class has just begun sex education. Some of it clearly isn't going very well.
So the morning of sex ed, I found myself wondering whether they were going to mention pleasure. Or would it be all about disease and pregnancy, all gloom and doom?

As it turned out, I’m not even sure they mentioned sex at all. Over bagels the Saturday morning following sex ed day, I started my inquiry by asking our son what he learned about HIV. “It’s an inherited disease,” he told me. “You get it from your mother.”
I'm a gay man without children, so maybe this is none of my business, but it seems we need some sex education for parents and teachers.
